We are often asked "With Oil prices going up so fast, is it worth switching to LPG or Electricity to heat my house?"

The answer to this is not obvious as direct comparisons are not easy since we buy Electricity in kWH, LPG in bottles, kg or litres, Oil in litres and coal in tonnes.

To add to the confusion some heating appliances are more efficient at using the fuel than others.

The best way to compare these fuels is to calculate how much it costs for one unit of energy actually going into your house, not up the chimney or lost evaporating water. This unit of energy is the kilo-watt hour (kWH) and is about the amount of energy given out by a one bar electric fire if switched on for one hour.

This cost calculator gives you a direct comparison between these energy sources.

All you need to know is the cost of the fuel.
